The trail is now open!   Come and enjoy the new trail and boardwalk.

To see more photos of the project from start to finish click here.

Volunteers have worked hard over the past few years clearing the trail, constructing the needed boardwalk sections and completing the gravel trail needed to construct the 2100-foot trial. The boardwalk sections were installed by a team from the Maine Conservation Corps to create the 1/3-mile, wheelchair-accessible trail. Volunteers from all over eastern Washington County have donated their time to helping the Quoddy Regional Land Trust build boardwalk sections for its Mowry Beach Trail Project in Lubec.

QRLT along with RMCL, the CCLC and LCS will be planning an opening ceremony day sometime spring 2008.  If you would like to help organize or volunteer with this event please call Alana at 733-5509 or email qrlt@maineline.net

We would like to thank so many in the community who have donated their time, materials and know how towards the project! Just to name a few:  Victor Trafford for the much need warehouse space, Ukey Santos, The Lubec Consolidate School,  The town of Lubec, The Medical Center at Lubec & the Community HealthCorps, EBS, William Coffin & Sons & Peacock's & The Cobscook Community Learning Center. Without all of the support QRLT has received this trail project would not have coming together.  For the full list of who helped (click here).

Thanks to all the volunteers

who have helped out with trail!

Mowry Beach was purchased in 2004 by QRLT, through the generosity of the Mowry family, funding support from the Land for Maine’s Future program, and donations from the Down East Community.

The Mowry Beach Trail Project is a community effort

that supports outdoor education activities at the school

and is a cooperative effort between the Lubec Consolidated school,

The Cobscook Community Learning Center and the

Quoddy Regional Land Trust.

The trail project has been funded in part by the

Recreational Trails Program, Ray Alden and by donations

from the community.

About Mowry Beach

A number of community people, leaders, and organizations will play a role to determine how

Mowry Beach will be used to benefit the School and Community and yet maintain the

high value of its natural features.

Lubec students are making use of the property as an outdoor classroom.  They will be directly involved with the development of the trails, gathering the property’s natural resources and management of the land.

Mowry Beach is on the Lubec Channel with spectacular views of the channel including the lighthouse known as "Sparkplug", across to Roosevelt International Park on Campobello Island, and down the channel to West Quoddy Head Lighthouse at West Quoddy State Park.

Public access at Mowry Beach has been guaranteed forever, thanks to the generosity of the Mowry heirs, a grant from the Land for Maine's Future program, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, the local community and all the other in-kind support and donations.

The Mowry Beach Property Features:

- 1,800 feet of ocean frontage     - 48 acres    - Sandy beach

- Small pond    - Habitat for many species of birds

Important tidal flats for upland birds and many species of shorebirds and waterfowl.

The Mowry Beach Project is a cooperative effort between Lubec Consolidated School, Quoddy Regional Land Trust (QRLT), and the Cobscook Community Learning Center (CCLC).
