Stewardship

The Quoddy Regional Land Trust holds its conservation lands and conservation easements in perpetuity.  Providing for the long-term management of our lands, and for the monitoring and enforcement of our conservation easements, is an essential and growing part of our work.  Because of its importance, we ask donors of lands or easements to also consider donating to our Stewardship Endowment fund, and we include stewardship in our budget for every acquisition campaign.  We have also, since our very first day, put ten percent of every membership and other unrestricted donation into our Stewardship Endowment fund.

QRLT has an active Stewardship Committee, which works with our Stewardship Coordinator to plan and carry out our land management and easement monitoring program.  (We recently combined the part-time positions of Administrative Assistant and Stewardship Coordinator, with one person now carrying out both sets of tasks.)  QRLT depends on stewardship volunteers, under the Stewardship Coordinator’s direction, to conduct monitoring of our easement-protected properties.

In November 2003, QRLT approved a set of general Stewardship Policies for the conservation land that we own.  These policies set standards for public use, management of plants and animals and other concerns, and will be the basis for management plans now under development for each of our properties.
